14.04.2009 Trial against Bulgaria Tobacco Monopoly Former Head Drags on A Bulgarian court has delayed the trial against the former chief executive of state tobacco company Bulgartabak, who is charged with misappropriation of funds and tax evasion on a large scale.
The next hearing has been scheduled for June 8.
Prosecutors say Hristo Lachev has not paid taxes totalling BGN 10,000 for the period 2004-2006. He has not legally declared properties in Sofia, Separeva Banya, Bansko and along the Black Sea coast.
Lachev has denied any wrongdoing.
A year ago the economy minister asked for Lachev\'s suspension and has since appointed a second CEO to run the cigarette maker. An anti-crime commission froze property and all the bank accounts of Lachev. |
