Yahoo pulls the plug on GeoCities
Yahoo is to close its personal web hosting site GeoCities later this year. In a statement, the firm says it will no longer be accepting new customers and will focus on helping \"customers build new relationships online\". Yahoo bought GeoCities for $3.57bn at the height of the dotcom boom in 1999. At its peak, GeoCities boasted millions of active accounts, but it has since fallen out of fashion, with users migrating to social networking sites. Yahoo says that existing GeoCities accounts will remain live for now, although it stresses that users should start looking for alternative sites....

Facebook users say yes to changes
Facebook users have voted to back changes which give them control over data and content they post on the site. Early results suggest 75% of those who voted support the proposals. The vote was triggered by changes Facebook made to its terms and conditions in February. The move drew fire because it appeared to hand the social network site ownership of images, videos and data that users posted on profile pages. The fiance of a young woman who was raped after a night out in Manchester has set up a group on Facebook in an attempt to catch her attacker. Bulgaria to cut administration to fight crisis
SOFIA, Sept 23 (Reuters) - Bulgaria\\\'s new centre-right government plans to cut its bloated administration by 15 percent next year as part of efforts to reduce spending and overcome a deep recession, it said on Wednesday.

The government of the GERB party, which won elections in July, approved over 80 anti-crisis measures to be implemented by May next year to maintain financial stability in the European Union\\\'s poorest member state.

Demand for smaller real estate in Bulgaria could increase this year as the number of small properties being built has fallen so much that there is not enough supply, it is claimed...

Small studio flats priced at around €25,000 have been accounting for 34% of total sales in the country\'s real estate market but few new projects are due for completion, according to property consultancy Address.

‘The supply of such types of studios is decreasing while new construction for the moment is rather dormant. This is likely to create a demand that is likely to surpass initial forecasts,\' said marketing manager Kaloyan Bogdanov.

Those buying property overseas may turn to Bulgaria
Brits considering buying property overseas may have a part to play in an anticipated increase in demand for smaller real estate in Bulgaria.

Small properties in the country have recently accounted for 34 per cent of the country’s real estate sales, however they are limited in supply as few projects are due for completion, property company Address suggests.

It also reports that buyers are working hard to make their money go further with 87 per cent of investors asking for discounts on asking prices.

In the first three months of the year the average discount achieved was €3,000 (£2,618).

Bulgaria Municipalities Rise against Luxury Tax
Bulgaria\'s new tax on luxury goods, which the government plans to introduce to help fight the economic crisis and keep down the fiscal deficit, will not benefit the municipalities, mayors have warned.

“The introduction of levies for luxury properties and cars will enrich only the budgets of the bigger municipalities such as Sofia, Varna and Burgas,” representatives of the Association of the Bulgarian towns and regions alarmed.
